The award-winning R92 is optimized for close micing in the 3-18 inch range. With the least proximity bass boost of our Big Ribbon™ mics, it maintains a natural bass-to-treble balance. Excellent wind-blast protection makes it especially useful on-stage or with vocalists. With separate front and back voicing, the R92 provides a choice between a brighter top end, or a more traditional ribbon sound. The award-winning two-channel AEA Ribbon Mic Preamplifier is an ultra high-gain and impedance, minimal-path FET mic pre. It is definitely not your run-of-the-mill mic pre. This low-noise preamp is for ribbon, moving coil, and tube microphones that need extra quiet gain but no phantom power. We avoided some of the comprimises that phantom power requires and improved its circuitry compared to most mic pres resulting in a true "minimal path circuitry." Zener diodes on the input protect the input stage if external phantom power is applied. You haven't heard how good your ribbon and tube mics actually sound until you've heard them with the TRP.
